Vols sweep doubleheader over Bellarmine and EKU

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee men's tennis swept both of their matches Thursday against Bellarmine and EKU at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
The Big Orange (4-3) took down Bellarmine (0-4) to begin the day in a dominant 7-0 victory. Not long after, UT took care of business against Eastern Kentucky (2-5) with another 7-0 triumph.
MATCH 1: Tennessee 7, Bellarmine 0
Tennessee newcomers fueled the win against Bellarmine, going undefeated in both doubles and singles.
The Vols swept the doubles point with two quick wins on court one and three. Shion Itsusaki and Jose Garcia took the first match swiftly, 6-2, and Alejandro Moreno and Piotr Siekanowicz's win on court one came right behind, 6-1. Moreno and Siekanowicz's victory captured the doubles point for the Vols for the third time this year.
Boruch Skierkier and Ethan Muza were in control of their fixture, 5-1, before it went unfinished.
The newbies led the way in singles as well, winning the first three sets on courts 4, 5 and 6 in convincing fashion. Itsusaki was the first to finish on six, taking down Colby Berson, 6-2, 6-0. Muza followed on five with a victory over Alex English, 6-1, 6-1. Siekanowicz clinched the match on four after overcoming Ryan Parkins, 6-2, 6-2. The returners were no different with their results, with Moreno, Jan Kobierski and Garcia, claiming two-set winners. The Vols finished the match by not dropping a single set against BU.
MATCH 2: Tennessee 7, Eastern Kentucky 0
UT kept the momentum rolling from the first sweep to capture their second doubles point of the day, gaining an early lead on the colonels. The tandem of Shion Itsusaki and Jose Garcia wrapped it up quickly on court three with a 6-1 feat over Fernando Bulnes and Pepe Miralles. Following the triumph, Alejandro Moreno and Piotr Sieakaanowicz finished with a punctual 6-2 display against Nuno Pinheiro and Ilie Cazac.
Singles play was more of the same with the Volunteers in control. Muza started singles off with a domination of 6-1, 6-1 over Ilie Cazac. Moreno then joined the fun with a 6-1, 6-1 victory of his own against Nuno Pinheiro. Siekanowicz clinched for the Vols after besting Joao Barreto, 6-3, 6-0.
Tennessee played the matches out after the clinch, resulting in three more Vols (Itsusaki, Kobierski and Garcia in that order) joining in the win column.
UP NEXT
The Big Orange will take a trip to Wolverine State next weekend to face off against No. 24 Michigan State on Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m. ET and Michigan on Feb. 8 at Noon ET.
TERRIFIC FIRST OUTING
Shion Itsusaki's first career match day went as well as it could have. The freshman went undefeated in both matches with two wins in singles and doubles. Both wins in singles came on court six in decisive fashion, only dropping five total sets.
