Garcia Leads Vols’ Performance At ITA Ohio Valley Regional
October 14, 2026 | Men's Tennis
Tennessee men's tennis player Jose Garcia put together a strong performance to reach the round of 16 in singles and the quarterfinals in doubles at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships in College Grove, Tenn., over the weekend.
It marked the second year in a row that Garcia had participated in the regional, improving on last year's round of 32 exit. The Knoxville native made farther than any other Vol at this year's tournament. He picked up wins over ETSU's Jakub Prachar (3-6, 7-5, 6-2) and Kentucky's Rafael Ymer (1-6, 6-3, 6-4) in the process before falling to Sam Landau of Indiana, 6-7 (5), 3-6.
Shion Itsusaki, Daniel Jovanovski and Orel Kimhi also participated in the event. Kimchi was able to reach the round of 32 in singles after his first win as a Vol came against Middle Tennessee's Clement Mayoral, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Jovanovski tallied his first collegiate win over Charlie Robin from Belmont, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1, to put the freshman into the round of 32. Both Vols, however, were unable advance.
UT's doubles play was the strong suit of the team's performance in College Grove. The Big Orange duo of Itsusaki and Garcia were able to move along to the quarterfinal round. The tandem defeated pairings from Butler, Xavier and Indiana. Jovanovski and Kimhi, meanwhile, reached the round of 16 for the first time as a doubles pair, earning victories over teams from Lipscomb and Louisville.
For the tournament, the Vols picked up four singles wins and five doubles victories.
