Men’s Tennis Central: Tennessee vs. Michigan State and Michigan

The Tennessee men's tennis team is set to take a trip to the Wolverine State to compete against Michigan State at 6:30 p.m. ET on February 6 at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center and vs. Michigan on Feb. 8 at noon ET at Varsity Tennis Center.

LAST TIME OUT
UT picked up its second doubleheader sweep of the year with 7-0 wins against Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky on Jan. 29. The Vols were dominant the whole day, dropping only one set in the two matches played.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN STATE
Michigan State has had a tough stretch to begin the year, starting 0-3. Their losses have come at Kentucky, 5-2, and against Harvard, 4-2, and No. 14 South Carolina, 4-2, during the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
The Big Orange owns the head-to-head record against the Spartans, 5-2, with its most recent win coming last year in Knoxville on Jan. 31 in 4-3 fashion. Tennessee is currently on a five-game win streak against MSU.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN
U of M's early schedule featured stiff competition, including top-10 battles with No. 9 NC State and No. 2 Virginia. Michigan tallied one win in the four-match stretch against Cornell, 4-3.
The last faceoff between the Wolverines and the Volunteers was last year at the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 26, where the Vols dropped the match, 1-4. UT is 11-5 all-time vs. Michigan.

Freshman Shion Itsusaki started his collegiate career in the best way possible. Itsuaki went undefeated in the two doubles and singles competitions he played on Jan. 29 against Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky. The highly-ranked junior didn't lose a single set in either doubles or singles matches.
ON THE RISE
Senior Alejandro Moreno moved up 65 spots in the latest ITA singles ranking to No. 56 in the country. This ranking came, after the first rankings of the season on Nov. 25, 2025, listed him at No. 121. Moreno improved his ranking after taking down No. 12 DK Suresh from Wake Forest and starting the dual season 5-1 in singles.
UP NEXT
The Vols will take a two-week break before starting SEC play by traveling to Lexington to face off against Kentucky on Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. ET.
