Vols Slip to13th After Second Round of Carpet Capital Collegiate

DALTON, Ga.-The University of Tennessee men's golf team slipped to 13th after the second round of play at the 2003 Carpet Capital Collegiate with a scorecard of 303-294--597. The tournament is being played at The Farm Golf Club.
Leading the way for the Vols is freshman Ross Cox. Cox turned in a score of 67 to go with his first-round score of 75 for a total of 142. He opened play on the back nine with birdies on holes 10, 12, 14 and 16 before bogeying 18 to enter the final nine at 3-under-par. Cox bogeyed No. 3 before returning to form, making birdie on holes four, six and nine to close out at 5-under-par.
Standing in second for UT is junior John Scott Rattan in a tie for 41st. Rattan fired a 77 during the second round to go with his previous score of 72 for a 149. Junior David Skinns is next for Tennessee in 47th-t. Skinns has a scorecard of 75-75-150. Sophomore Lloyd Campbell and junior Ross McGowan are tied for 77th to round out the Vols scoring. Both players have scorecards of 81-76-157.
Clemson, the second-ranked team in the nation continues to lead the tournament. The Tigers have a scorecard of 289-279-568 (8-under-par). Top-ranked Florida stands four strokes back in second with a 295-277-572. Rounding out the top five teams is No. 8 Georgia (573) in third, No. 6 Texas (577) in fourth and No. 12 Augusta State (579) in fifth.
Jason Hartwick of Texas leads the individual portion of the tournament with a 71-65-136. Jack Ferguson of Clemson and James Heath of Augusta State are three strokes back in a tie for second with scores of 139.
