BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference revealed its weekly golf awards on Wednesday afternoon, recognizing Tennessee's Pennson Badgett as the SEC Freshman of the Week.
In just his fourth official collegiate tournament, Badgett had a historic performance at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate last week to win his first individual title. He fired three consecutive rounds in the 60s to secure a 16-under-par 54-hole score, tied for the second best in program history.
Badgett opened the tournament with a 4-under-par 68, before excelling to a 7-under-par 65 in round two. The freshman closed the event with a 5-under-par 67 in round three, sinking a clutch birdies putt on hole No. 18 to secure a one-stroke victory atop the 93-golfer field.
Across three rounds, Badgett tallied 18 birdies, one eagle and just four bogeys to cruise to the low score. He concludes the first semester of his collegiate career with eight rounds of par or better in 12 rounds completed and three top-25 finishes in four appearances.
Badgett and the rest of the Tennessee squad will pause for the Winter as the Fall college golf season has concluded. The Vols will open the Spring season at the Watersound Invitational, Feb. 14-16 in Watersound, Florida.
