After graduating from Tennessee in 2015, Tavis Bailey joined the track & field team staff as a Volunteer Assistant Coach for throws. Bailey is in his second season as a volunteer coach after competing for the Vols for four years.
Bailey qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics by placing second in the discus at the 2016 US Olympic Trials with a throw of 63.42 meters. In Rio, Bailey threw the discus 59.81m in rainy conditions and finished in 26th place.
As a student-athlete at Tennessee Bailey was the national runner-up in the men's discus (203-2/61.92), and won a silver at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships. He also earned honorable mention All-America honors in the shot put in 2015.
Bailey was named second team All-American in the men's weight throw after placing 9th at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships. This came after he earned a silver medal in the weight throw at the 2015 SEC Championships with an effort of 70 feet, 6.25 inches (2.10m).
Bailey was awarded both the 2012 and 2014 Ed Murphey Award for outstanding performance by a Tennessee student-athlete.
