April 05, 2025 | Men's Tennis
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 18th-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team rallied to defeat Florida, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
The Vols (17-6, 8-4 SEC) have won four out of their five deciding match courts this season, thanks to a variety of clinchers. Tennessee's 4-3 clinches have come from Alejandro Moreno with two and Shunsuke Mitsui and Ian Cruz each with one.
In doubles play, Florida (13-9, 8-5 SEC) got off to a hot start, winning court three, 6-0. The other two Tennessee pairings were locked in competitive battles, with neither team able to break through easily. Mitsui and Alan Jesudason evened up the early action with a 7-5 showing on court two. No. 12 Alex Kotzen and Moreno dropped a tight matchup, 7-5, to give the early edge and a 1-0 lead to the Gators.
Singles action saw the Vols win two early first sets, while Florida tacked on four of their own. Jose Garcia got out to a 6-4 early advantage against Kevin Edengren, while Moreno secured a 6-4 first set as well. However, the Gators would strike first, as Henry Jefferson defeated Cruz, 6-3, 6-3.
Shortly following, Florida would tack on another point and put UF at the doorstep with No. 95 Adhithya Ganesan's 6-3, 6-4 triumph over 25th-ranked Kotzen. The Vols would start a rally of their own, with Garcia earning a 6-4, 6-4 win on court four and No. 31 Mitsui giving a resilient 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 effort to provide UT with a pair of points.
Jan Kobierski, who has not been in the singles lineup since early March, put Tennessee even with the Gators, as he won his match 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. With both teams even 3-3, Moreno put the Vols on top, clinching the match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
