#17 Vols Fall To #14 Texas A&M, 4-3

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 17th-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team dropped a competitive contest to No. 14 Texas A&M, 4-3, on Friday evening at Barksdale Stadium.
In doubles, the Aggies (16-8, 9-4 SEC) opened doubles with the duo of Giulio Perego and Ritesh Patil taking a 6-1 victory over Tennessee's Jan Kobierski and Jose Garcia. A&M's 10th-ranked team of Theo Papamalamis and Togan Tokac earned a 6-3 decision over the eighth-ranked Vols duo of Alex Kotzen and Alejandro Moreno to pick up the doubles point.
Singles action was competitive in the first sets, with Tennessee (17-7, 8-5 SEC) claiming four of the courts to open. Picking up first-set victories were No. 25 Shunsuke Mitsui, Moreno, Garcia and Ian Cruz.
Striking first for the Vols was 25th-ranked Mitsui, who earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory over the Aggies' Magadan. The victory marked the 125th singles victory of the senior's career, and moved him into sole possession of fifth place in school history for singles victories.
Texas A&M earned a response on court five, with Tokac picking up a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Alan Jesudason. The seesaw match continued, with the Vols striking back on court one with No. 33 Kotzen picking up a victory over No. 35 Theo Papamalamis 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
The Aggies would quickly earn back another point, with Tiago Pires picking up a victory over Moreno 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 to get one point away from the victory. Tennessee wouldn't go down easily thanks to an Cruz victory on court six 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 to push the match to a deciding court four.
To clinch the match, the Aggies' Luke Casper picked up the victory on court four 5-7, 7-6, 6-4 over Garcia to give A&M the victory.
