Bio
After two years on the Vols[apos] squad as a student-athlete, Christopher Williams is in his second season as a volunteer assistant with the Tennessee program.
His leadership role on the team as a junior and senior led to his position as a coach.
'Since joining the program in January of last year, we have never seen anyone have such an impact on a program in such a short time,' head coach Sam Winterbotham said. 'Christopher immediately took on a leadership role and helped galvanize the team. He has a special ability to recognize what is needed to bring a team together. He epitomizes what college tennis is all about by the way he is committed to helping the team in any way he can.'
Williams is currently working on his Master[apos]s of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport Psychology and Motor Behavior. He says working with the faculty and fellow students in the Department of Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport Studies has made him a better coach.
'The mental aspect of sport is vital when it comes to performing well in high-pressure situations,' Williams said. 'It is great to have an academic setting that gels nicely with the on-court and competitive experience.'
Williams, a Knoxville native, recently graduated with a degree in Sociology (Criminal Justice) at UT. He was named to the Southeastern Conference Honor Roll following the 2010 season. He earned a Top 10 Student Athlete GPA Award in 2010 and got the Outstanding Scholar Athlete Chancellor[apos]s Award in 2011.
Prior to joining the Vols, Williams spent two seasons playing at Wofford. He transferred to Tennessee in 2008. He became a member of the Vols[apos] squad before the spring 2009 season.
