#14 Vols Fall to #4 Longhorns in SEC Semifinals, 4-2

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 14 overall and 5th-seeded Tennessee men's tennis team came up short against No. 4 and top-seeded Texas, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at Carolina Tennis Center.

Tennessee (20-8, 9-5 SEC) was able to win the doubles point for the first time during this SEC Tournament, grabbing wins on courts one and two. Texas (24-4, 13-1 SEC) grabbed a victory to start things off, but the Volunteers were able to respond in emphatic fashion. Alan Jesudason and Shunsuke Mitsui picked up their third straight win with a 6-3 showing, then No. 11 Alex Kotzen and Alejandro Moreno followed, securing a 6-4 triumph over ninth-ranked Lucas Brown and Timo Legout.

Ian Cruz was once again able to cruise to victory, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, to put the Vols up 2-0. Jose Garcia and Kotzen were able to pull in first sets of their own to give the Vols some early momentum. However, Texas would respond with two quick wins on courts three and five to put the match at an even standstill.

The Longhorns would find an answer once again and take the lead for the first time on the day, as Garcia fell to Jonah Braswell, 4-6, 6-0, 6-0. Texas would rally behind this result and end Tennessee's run, as second-ranked Legout defeated No. 31 Kotzen, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.

Mitsui was in the middle of a competitive third set before Texas clinched and his match went unfinished.
