No. 16 Tennessee Shuts Out Duke, 4-0

ORLANDO, Fla. -- After a series of delays due to rain, the 16th-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team defeated Duke, 4-0 in a neutral site matchup at the USTA National Campus. With this victory, the Vols move to 6-1 on the year.
The rest of the matches were hard fought battles that continued to three sets. Freshman Martim Prata took on Catalin Mateas in the No. 4 spot and won 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Junior Luca Wiedenmann clinched the match for the Volunteers with a 7-6 (3), 6-7 (5), 6-3 victory in the No. 6 position, giving UT the 4-0 advantage.
The two other matches on the day, which included Tennessee's No. 82 Timo Stodder versus No. 26 Nick Stachowiak, went unfinished.
SERIES HISTORY: Tennessee moves to 15-11 against Duke all-time and had most recently defeated the Blue Devils 4-1 in 2018. The two teams have met every year since 2011, and the series dates back to 1975.
UP NEXT: Tennessee continues its road stretch with back-to-back away contests at NC State (Feb. 22) and Georgia Tech (Feb. 24). The Big Orange eventually returns to Knoxville for a home match on Feb. 27 against MTSU.

"I thought we settled in once we knew we were coming inside," said Tennessee head coach Chris Woodruff. "Once we came in here, we had some clarity as to what we were going to do. It was a hard-fought match, even though we won 4-0, there were some tough matches.
"(This event was) fantastic. We really appreciate the USTA and the Tennis Channel for considering us. This would have been a good one to (finish) on TV. All of the matches were close."
Senior Preston Touliatos was the first Vol off the court, winning his match 7-5, 6-0 over Vincent Lin in the No. 5 spot.
