Vols Beat Harvard for First Road Tennis Win

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The second half of the lineup led the way as the Tennessee men’s tennis team defeated Harvard 5-2 on Saturday at the Murr Center.
The Vols (5-1) won their first road match of the season, clinching the match at 4-0 thanks to the doubles point and straight-set wins on courts 4, 5 and 6.
Tennessee continues its weekend against Ivy League opponents when the Vols take on Cornell on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. It will also be played at Harvard’s Murr Center.
After taking a 1-0 lead with the doubles point, the Vols won four and six first sets and started putting the points on the board in singles.
Freshman Luca Wiedenmann was off the court in less than 35 minutes, defeating Logan Weber 6-0, 6-0, his second shutout of the spring season on court 6. He was finished with his match before two matches were finished with the first set.
Fellow freshman Scott Jones put Tennessee up 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Andy Zhou on court 4. Senior Jack Schipanski sealed the team victory by beating Grant Solomon 7-5, 7-6(4) on court 5.
Sophomore Srdjan Jakovljevic scored a victory on court 3 to give Tennessee a 5-0 lead. Harvard won the top two courts in three sets, with Kenny Tao beating Timo Stodder and Brian Yeung getting past Luis Valero in a deciding tiebreaker.
