Vols Open Men's Tennis Season with Win Over SIU

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Volunteers opened the 2017 men’s tennis season with a 6-1 victory over Southern Illinois on Saturday at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
Freshman Scott Jones and Luca Wiedenmann made their dual match debuts in the orange and white. It was a whirlwind return for Jones, who returned from playing in the Australian Open on Friday night.
The Vols (1-0) continue action today by playing Eastern Kentucky at 2 p.m.
Sophomore Timo Stodder notably won his first career match at the top of the singles lineup, getting off court quickly with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Wilder Pimentel. Fellow sophomore Srdjan Jakovljevic clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Michal Kianicka on court 3.
