Chaplin Advances in Pre-Qualifying at All-American

Sophomore Jarryd Chaplin earned a straight-sets victory to advance to the third round of singles pre-qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Chaplin, who got a bye in the first round, beat Gustav Kallen of St. John's 7-5, 6-3 in his only match of the day at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The native of Sydney, Australia, plays James McKie of Drake in the third round Sunday at 8 a.m. Central. He would have to defeat McKie and win an additional match to advance to the qualifying draw.
Freshman Brandon Fickey lost his first pre-qualifying match, falling 6-1, 6-1 to Memphis' Johnny Grimal.
Junior Edward Jones is automatically in the qualifying of the All-American. He begins the tournament Monday.
At Georgia Tech: The Vols both started and finished competition at the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational on Saturday in Atlanta, with all four Vols losing in the main draw of either the first or second singles flight.
Freshman Peter Nagovnak provided the lone win for Tennessee, defeating fifth-seeded Vikram Reddy of Alabama 7-6 (4), 6-4. Reddy played No. 3 in the singles lineup for the Crimson Tide last season.
Later in the afternoon, he lost to Armstrong Atlantic's Sven Ialic 4-6, 6-1, 6-4
