Vols Sixth After Day One at Carpet Capital Collegiate

The No. 10 Tennessee men's golf team fired a 6-over-par 294 to find itself tied for sixth after the first round at the 20th annual Carpet Capital Collegiate played at The Farm in Rocky Face, Ga. The 54-hole tournament began Friday and runs through Sunday.
No. 23 ETSU was the only team to shoot under par and took the lead in the team standings with a 1-under-par 287. No. 31 Central Florida is two strokes back in second with No. 36 Mississippi right on their heels in third. No. 13 Clemson and No. 12 Chattanooga are tied for fourth at 3 over. No. 14 South Carolina is tied with UT for sixth.
Chris Paisley picked up right where he left off last season, pacing the Vols in second place with a 3-under-par 69. The lone senior started strong with three birdies on the front nine and finished his day off with two more birdies on the back nine.
Junior David Holmes finished at 2-over-par 74 and is tied for 29th. The Knoxville native played a solid front nine, parring seven holes followed by an up and down back nine where he birdied 12 and 15 but bogeyed 14 and 18.
Sophomore Robin Wingardh is tied for 36th after the first round, shooting a 3-over-par 75.
Making his Volunteer debut, freshman Darren Renwick carded a 4-over-par 76 and is tied for 50th going into the second round. Renwick shot par-or-better on 14-of-18 holes on the first day.
Junior James Brannen rounded out the Tennessee lineup with a 7-over-par 79. He finished the day tied for 83rd.
