The Tennessee men's golf team moved up to No. 2 in the latest national rankings released Thursday by Golfweek, improving four spots from its previous No. 6 ranking.
Sophomore Cameron Lawrence is ranked No. 6 in Golfweek's second collegiate player rankings of the season. Lawrence was one of two Vols to finish in the top 10 at the PING/Golfweek Preview on Tuesday, finishing tied for eighth.
The other Vol golfer to finish in the top 10 was sophomore Robin Wingardh, who is ranked No. 11 in the individual rankings. Wingardh earned his first collegiate victory as he tied for medalist honors.
The Volunteers finished second in the event, their second top 10 finish of the season, at 7 over par. Oklahoma State, which won the team championship by a commanding 16 strokes, is ranked No. 1 in the Golfweek ratings.
The rating system is based on a mathematical formula that uses a team's or player's won-lost-tied record against other players when they play on the same course on the same day, and the stroke differential between those players, then links all players to one another based on common opponents.
Tennessee returns to action Oct. 6 and 7 in the Wolf Pack Classic at Wolf Run Golf Club in Reno, Nev. The event is hosted by the University of Nevada.
