Vols Finish 7th at Carpet Capital Collegiate

The Tennessee men's golf team shot a final round 3-over-par 291 and finished seventh as the Carpet Capital Collegiate concluded Sunday at The Farm in Dalton, Ga. The Vols finished with a tournament scorecard of 292-300-291--883.

Senior Charlie Ford was the top finisher for the Volunteers. Ford had the best final round for the UT, shooting a 4-under-par 68 to finish in a tie for 18th place. He scattered six birdies among two bogeys on the day.

Senior Philip Pettitt and freshman Robin Wingardh were next for the Vols ending the day in a tie for 23rd place. Pettitt shot an even-par 72 to finish with a 54-hole total of 220. Winghard fired a 4-over-par 76 in the final round.
Junior Chris Paisley fired a final-round 3-over-par 75 to finish tied for 48th place.

Cameron Lawrence rounded out the lineup for Tennessee. Lawrence turned in a scorecard of 78-86-79--243 ending the tournament in 90th place.

Georgia Tech's Chesson Hadley took the individual crown after finishing the tournament at 8-under-par 208. In second, with a score of 211, was Alabama's Michael Thompson. South Carolina's George Bryan and Georgia State's Joel Sjoholm tied for third at 4-under-par 212. ETSU's Rhys Enoch (214) rounded out the top five.

Alabama won a one hole playoff with South Carolina to take home the team championship. The Crimson Tide finished the tournament 5-over-par and had a final scorecard of 292-295-282--869. Georgia Tech finished third at 6-over par, with Auburn and Duke rounding out the top five.

The Vols will travel next to Chicago for the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Sept.??29 - Oct. 1.
