Wingardh Leads Vols at Carpet Capital Collegiate

The Tennessee men's golf team finally got the first round of the season under its belt Saturday with the completion of the first and second rounds at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Dalton, Ga. The Vols are currently seventh with a 16-over-par 592.
Held at the Farm, the Volunteers fired a 4-over-par 292 to finish out the first round that was postponed Friday. The second round saw the Vols struggle with a 12-over-par 300.
Leading the Vols in his first college tournament Sweden native Robin Wingardh ended the day tied for seventh place at even par. Wingardh started the day with a 1-under-par 71 followed by a 1-over-par 73 in the second round.
Senior Philip Pettitt is tied for 28th after a solid first round 71 but struggled in the second with a 5-over-par 77.
Chris Paisley and Charlie Ford sit tied for 37th at the end of the day. Ford shot a 1-over-par 73 in the first round and a 5-over-par 77 in the second. Paisley improved his first round 77 four strokes with a 73 in the second.
Freshman Cameron Lawrence rounded out the Tennessee lineup. Lawrence has a scorecard of 78-86--164 to stand in 89th place heading into the final round.
South Carolina opened a five stroke lead with a team score of 292-288--580 followed by Auburn five strokes back in second. Georgia Tech is third at 10 over par and Alabama fourth at 11 over par. Duke and Wake Forest are tied at 13 over par to round out the top five.
Georgia Tech's Chesson Hadley fired a 65-69--134 to open a four stroke lead in the individual standings. Following four strokes back in second in Georgia State's Joel Sjoholm. South Carolina's George Bryan and Alabama's Michael Thompson are third and fourth respectively at 3 under and 2 under with two players tied for fifth.
The third and final round is scheduled to begin Sunday morning at 8 a.m. Eastern time.
