The Tennessee men's tennis team defeated The Citadel 6-1 Saturday at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center to improve to 9-4 on the season.
The Vols swept the doubles portion to take an early 1-0 lead. Chris Racz and Derek Stephens won their first doubles match defeating Martin King and Frederic Petrilli 8-3 at No. 3 doubles. Bobby Cameron and Kaden Hensel clinched the point for UT with an 8-5 victory over Daniel Dossetor and James Eason at the No. 1 position. Cameron and Hensel have clinched the doubles point four times this season. Davey Sandgren and Kiril Tcherveniachki finished the sweep with an 8-5 win over Alberto Diaz and Derek Jose at the No. 2 spot.
Tcherveniachki improved to 10-1 this season in dual-match play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over King at the No. 4 singles position. Tcherveniachki, a senior, has won six consecutive singles matches.
Ben Rogers gave UT a 3-0 lead with a straight-set win over Diaz at the No. 3 position. Rogers is also having a stellar senior season. The Kingsport native, is now 20-9 this season in singles and 10-3 in dual-match play.
Racz, UT's only true freshman on this year's squad, clinched the match for Tennessee with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win over Petrilli at the No. 6 position. Racz is 6-0 in dual-match singles and 16-6 on the season.
Hubble gave UT a 5-1 lead with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jose at the No. 5 position. Hubble is also undefeated in dual-match singles at 5-0.
Sandgren won his 12th three-set match of the season to close out the match. The redshirt-freshman defeated Dossetor 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 for his 22nd victory of the season.
Eason gave the Bulldogs their lone point of the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Stephens.
Tennessee finishes its doubleheader Saturday afternoon against Murray State at 3 p.m.
