Paisley Wins Medalist Honors; UT Fifth

Junior Chris Paisley won medalist honors and the Tennessee men???s golf team finished tied for fifth as the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges concluded Sunday in Jonesborough, Tenn.
Paisley followed up on a course-record 64 in Saturday???s second round by parring 14 of 18 holes to finish at even par on Sunday. He finished the tournament at 10 under par and took the individual title by two strokes over Maryland???s Chris Gold and Kent State???s John Hahn.
This individual title is the first of Paisley???s career, improving on his previous best performance, a second-place finish at the 2007 SEC Championships.
As a team, the Vols carded a 2-over-par 290 in the final round and finished with a team score of 858. Tennessee has placed in the top-10 in 10 of its last 11 tournaments.
Senior Philip Pettitt was next for the Volunteers, finishing tied for 13th place after an even-par 72 in the second round.
Sophomore David Holmes also had a good third round, firing a 1-over-par 73 to finish 2 over par for the tournament and tied for 36th place.
Freshman Robin Wingardh repeated his second round score of 1-over-par 73 to end with a 54-hole total of 221 and tied for 51st place.
Senior Charlie Ford rounded out the Tennessee lineup in a tie for 63rd place. Ford shot his best round of the tournament, a 1-over-par 73, and finished with a scorecard of 75-76-73--224.
Competing as an individual, senior Ben Spickard shot a 4-over-par 76 in the final round and finished tied for 63rd place.
Virginia Tech won a scorecard tiebreaker over North Carolina to capture the team title. Both tied for first place in the standings at 12-under-par at the end of play. Finishing two strokes behind in third was tournament-host ETSU. Kent State finished third at 8 under par and Tennessee and Coastal Carolina rounded out the top five at 6 under par.
The Vols travel next to Greensboro, Ga., for the Calloway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championships, Oct. 28-30.
