Tennessee Finishes Sixth at SEC Golf Championships

SEA ISLAND, Ga. - Tennessee finished sixth at the 2004 SEC Golf Championships that concluded Sunday at Seaside Course at Sea Island, Ga. The Vols had a scorecard of 283-296-289--868, edging past 12th-ranked South Carolina (869).
Leading the way for the Big Orange this weekend was John Scott Rattan. Rattan concluded the tournament tied for 20th after turning in a three-day scorecard of 68-74-74--216.
Ross McGowan was next for the Vols in a tie for 25th. McGowan ended play after carding a 72-75-72--219.
Ross Cox, a freshman making his SEC Championships debut, finished one stroke back of McGowan with a 70-77-73--220, tying him for 29th.
David Skinns and freshman Tino Weiss rounded out the Vol competitors in a tie for 31st. Skinns finished with a 73-75-73--221, while Weiss had a 78-72-71--221 in his first SEC event.
Fourth-ranked Georgia swept the tournament, winning the team and individual titles. The team fired a 269-291-289--849 to deny top-ranked Florida from consecutive SEC championships. The Gators finished with a 283-277-290--850.
The Bulldogs' Brendon Todd was the individual medalist with a 66-72-69--207. Mark Donnell of Vanderbilt and Matt Every of Florida finished one stroke back in a tie for second. Donnell had a 70-71-67--208, while Every shot a 72-65-71--208.
The Vols now await their destination for one of three NCAA regionals, May 20-22. The regional sites are the Yale University Golf Club in Yale, Conn., for the East Region, Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind., for the Central Region and Crosswater Club at Sunriver Resort in Portland, Ore., for the West Region.
