Dallas-- Tennessee's Mario Toledo bounced back Friday with two wins at the Omni Hotels National Indoor Championships being held in Dallas.
The Vol senior won his two consolation bracket matches Friday after suffering a first round setback in Thursday's first round of the main draw. Toledo began the day with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Duke's Michael Yani. No. 16-ranked Toledo would then advance to the consolation semifinals with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Georgia Tech's Roger Anderson.
"It is an indicator of how tough a competitor (Toledo) is by the way he bounced back after a bad day Thursday," UT head coach Michael Fancutt said. "Last year our team suffered what I believe is the worst loss of my head coaching career to Oklahoma State in the first round of the National Team Indoors. Our team fought back after that bad day and had two good wins to finish out the tournament. I saw that type of maturity and fight again today out of Mario (Toledo)."
Toledo is tentatively scheduled to play at 2 p.m. Saturday in the consolation semifinal round.
