SEC MEET RECAP
- Best result in debut conference meet came in the 1650 freestyle, where she took 14th overall in 16:23.60. It was 22 seconds better than her seed time.
- Scored points in the B final of the 200 butterfly, taking 15th overall in 1:58.55
- Took 26th in the 500 freestyle in 4:48.34, finishing as the second alternate in the event.
- Competed in six meets during her first fall season with the Vols. Her top times included: 4:59.51 in the 500 free (NC State GAC Invitational), 10:11.90 in the 1000 free (Louisville), 16:45.07 in the 1650 free (NC State GAC Invitational), 2:05.72 in the 200 fly (NC State GAC Invitational) and 4:26.41 in the 400 IM (NC State GAC Invitational).
- A proven winner, Atkins has been a member of the Sarasota YMCA Sharks Junior Olympic Championships, and YMCA National Championships, and a member of Riverview High School, helping them win Florida State in 2012 and 2013
- 2015 Florida High School State Champion in 500 freestyle
- Atkins on Why Tennessee: "I felt a sense of a family, unity and it just felt like home. My mom encouraged me to go there; she thought it was the perfect fit, as did I."
- Matt Kredich says, "Spence is our third ever `legacy' swimmer on the women's team. Her mom was an All American and school record holder for Tennessee and we think Spence can work her way to that level as well. She is a very good distance swimmer, and should fit into our program seamlessly. She is known as a fierce competitor, and as part of the YMCA National Championship team, she has shown that she can help a team win at very high levels."
