Tennessee Claims Five Saturday Victories At Jim Green Invite, East Coast Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee track & field program collected five first-place finishes on Saturday at the Jim Green Invitational (Lexington, Ky.) and the East Coast Relays (Jacksonville, Fla.), highlighted by a school record from Cedricka Williams during her victorious effort in the women's discus at Kentucky.
Williams opened Saturday's action for Tennessee with a season-best toss of 60.76 meters (199-4), improving her own Lady Vol discus record and ranking second in the NCAA this season. The Ocho Rios, Jamaica, native is inching toward her lifetime best of 61.07 meters (200-4), which stands as the NJCAA Division I all-time record in the event.
Sophomore standout JL Van Rensburg picked up his third win of the outdoor season in the men's shot put at Kentucky, recording a mark of 19.63 meters (64-5) in the sixth round. Senior Vol John Bruder also notched an outdoor season best, placing fifth in the competition with a throw of 18.17 meters (59-7.5).
Tennessee's South African duo delivered a 1-2 finish in the men's discus at the Jim Green Invitational, with Aron Alvarez Aranda and Wesley Badenhorst finishing first and second overall. Aranda took the win with a mark of 59.43 meters (194-11), while Badenhorst's throw of 58.22 meters (191-0) secured second place and set a new personal best that ranks eighth in school history.
In Jacksonville, a pair of Florida natives took home titles in the individual sprints at the East Coast Relays. Cydney Wright of Daytona Beach won the women's 400-meter with a personal-best time of 51.43 seconds—ranking fifth in school history—while Traunard Folson claimed the 100-meter crown in his hometown with a wind-aided time of 9.93 (+4.1).
UP NEXT: Tennessee rounds out the weekend with three distance runners set to compete at the Duke Twilight (Durham, N.C.) on Sunday. Action begins at 6:25 p.m. ET with Carter Knox in the men's 800-meter.
