July 14, 2026 | Track & Field
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced Tuesday that Tennessee track & field standouts Marc Anthony Ibrahim and JL Van Rensburg have been named to the 2025-26 CSC Academic All-America Team, recognizing their excellence on the track and in the classroom.
Voted on by CSC members, Ibrahim earned Academic All-America First Team honors, while Van Rensburg was selected to the Third Team. Tennessee was one of 10 Division I programs with multiple honorees, and the duo becomes the 15th and 16th men's Academic All-Americans in program history.
Ibrahim joined the Tennessee track & field program in January 2026 and made an immediate impact during his first season with the Volunteers. After placing sixth in the 400-meter hurdles at the SEC Outdoor Championships, he earned a pair of First Team All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with top-eight finishes in the 400-meter hurdles and 4x400-meter relay. He contributed 5.5 points to Tennessee's third-place team finish, helping the Vols secure their first NCAA team trophy since 2022. After previously earning an undergraduate degree in his native Lebanon, Ibrahim is pursuing a bachelor's degree in information sciences at Tennessee and was recently named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
Van Rensburg capped his sophomore season with a record-tying performance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, matching the Tennessee men's shot put record with a throw of 20.33 meters (66-8.5) to finish as the national runner-up. The performance marked the highest NCAA finish by a Tennessee men's shot putter in program history. He also claimed the SEC silver medal in the event, becoming the Vols' first conference medalist in the men's outdoor shot put since 2022. A finance major, Van Rensburg was also named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
In addition to earning Academic All-America honors, Ibrahim and Van Rensburg were two of six Vols named to the 2025-26 CSC Academic All-District Team. Aron Alvarez Aranda, Clarke Byram, Igor Olaru and Calvin Wetzel were also tabbed with Academic All-District accolades.
