#14 Vols Close SEC Championship in 13th Place
April 24, 2026 | Men's Golf
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The No. 14 Tennessee men's golf team's time at the SEC Championship ended on Friday, as the team closed the stroke play portion of the event in 13th place.
The Vols posted a 5-over-par 285 in round three, falling to a 54-hole score of 4-under-par. With a 13th place finish, the team missed the top eight cut line to advance to the match play portion of the tournament, set to take place this weekend. In addition to Tennessee, other notable teams to miss the cut include No. 8 LSU, No. 11 Vanderbilt, and No. 17 Alabama, who each finished 11th place or worse.
Despite not advancing to the match play quarterfinals, the Vols still have postseason golf to look forward to as the team is likely to participate in its eighth consecutive NCAA regional in May. In 2025, despite a 14th place finish at the SEC Championship, Tennessee advanced from the Amherst NCAA Regional to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season.
Josh Hill earned Tennessee's highest individual finish in his final appearance at the SEC Championship. The Vol senior went 4-under-par on the week, carding a joint team-best even-par 70 in round three, as his three birdies offset three bogeys. Hill finished tied for 24th place, his 17th career top 25 finish.
Lance Simpson was the other Vol to finish the tournament under par, closing at 1-under-par through 54 holes. The star senior shot a 2-over-par 72 in round three to tie for 38th place at the end of stroke play.
Chase Kyes tied Hill for Tennessee's best score of round three with an even-par 70. The freshman concluded his SEC Championship debut at 1-over-par and tied for 45th place.
Jackson Herrington wrapped up the countable scoring for the Vols with a 3-over-par 73 in round three. The reigning co-low amateur at the Masters tied for 60th place at 6-over-par overall.
Next up, the Vols will await their NCAA Regional destination, which will be revealed during the NCAA Golf Selection Show on May 6th at 2 p.m. EST on the Golf Channel. NCAA Regionals are set to take place May 18-20.
