Vols Drop Season Finale to #12 Gamecocks, 4-0
April 12, 2026 | Men's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee men's tennis dropped the regular-season finale match to No. 12 South Carolina, 4-0 at Barksdale Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Doubles play was a close affair, with both teams trading serve for the first few games. Tennessee's duo of Alejandro Moreno and Piotr Siekanowicz started to pull away, gaining a 4-1 lead on court one against No. 11 Lucas Andrade da Silva and Paul Barbier Gazeu.
South Carolina found momentum on court three, however, to claim the first triumph of doubles play. The partnership of Charlie Swain and Gabe Avram took down the duo of Woodson McMillin and Ethan Muza, 6-3.
Court two was the most competitive match, with the tandems trading serve points to forge a 4-4 tie. The Gamecocks, though, found a way to break away and clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 victory.
The pair of Moreno and Siekanowicz were the bright spot for the Vols, holding a lead from the jump. The match ultimately went unfinished after USC clinched the doubles point with Moreno and Siekanowicz possessing a 5-4 lead.
South Carolina carried its winning ways into singles, claiming the first set on all six courts. The Volunteers wouldn't go down without a fight, though, forcing two tiebreaker games on courts four and five. Ethan Muza came back after being down 1-4 to tie the match at 4-all. Shion Itsusaki traded serves to reach the tiebreak game against Atakan Karahan from South Carolina. USC tallied both, however, to need only three more sets to win the match.
South Carolina was able to add on to its lead with victories on court three, 6-0, 7-6 (3), and court four, 7-6 (5), 6-4, respectively.
The Big Orange started to fight back in the second set with courts one, two and five needing extras to settle it. Jose Garcia was competing closely with one of the nation's best in No. 12 Lucas da Silva on court one.
South Carolina extinguished the flame, however, after it got a three-set win from Gabe Avram, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, to close out the contest.
