BSB PREVIEW: #13/20 Vols Set to Face Loaded Field in Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 13/20 Tennessee will face its toughest tests to date as part of a loaded field of teams at the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas this weekend.
The Vols open their tournament slate against top-ranked UCLA on Friday afternoon before taking on Arizona State and Virginia Tech, both of which enter the tournament with just one loss.

Abernathy Hitting His Stride
Sophomore speedster Jay Abernathy is off to a fast start this season and was one of the Vols' top performers last week, leading the team with a .500 batting average, seven hits, five runs scored, two doubles, four RBIs, 14 total bases, a 1.000 slugging percentage and two walks over four games.
The Acworth, Georgia, native, hit his first home run of the year in Friday's win over the Golden Flashes to give UT a 3-1 lead and batted .400 for the series. He continued his hot streak with a three-hit performance and three stolen bases in Tuesday's midweek win over Bellarmine. Entering the weekend, Abernathy leads the team with a .407 batting average and has reached base in all eight games this season while recording hits in five straight.
Swing and Miss Stuff
Tennessee's pitching staff has been racking up strikeouts in the early going this season, ranking 18th nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (12.1). The Vols have recorded 10-plus strikeouts in six of their eight games this year, including a season-high 16 last Saturday against Kent State.
Rutgers transfer Landon Mack has compiled a team-high 20 punchouts over his two starts this year, which leads the SEC and ranks fourth in the nation entering this weekend.
