
Redouane, Ogwoka Pace UT To Team Crowns At Tennessee XC Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Zouhair Redouane and Mary Nyaboke Ogwoka took home individual titles in their Tennessee debuts, leading the Vols and Lady Vols to first-place team finishes as UT swept the Tennessee Cross Country Invitational to open the 2025 campaign. Tennessee defeated No. 11/9 Alabama, Kentucky and Chattanooga in its annual home meet on a sunny Friday morning at the Cherokee Farm Cross Country Course.
MEN'S RACE RECAP: Redouane, a sophomore transfer via Texas Tech and California Baptist, dominated the men's four-mile race with a time of 19:18.27 for his third career individual XC victory. Sophomore newcomer Ethan Edgeworth was the runner-up with a time of 19:33.65 in his first action with the Vols, while redshirt sophomore Hudson Betts carded a fourth-place finish with a mark of 19:44.03.
Vol rookie Ty Steorts (20:04.30) and redshirt freshman Gavin Genisio (20:11.41) rounded out Tennessee's top five on the men's side, placing eighth and 10th respectively. True freshman Charlie Mlotshwa also made his official debut for the Vols, finishing 11th with a time of 20:14.11 over the four-mile course.
Unattached Vol freshmen Nelson Mapi Setek (19:33.69) and Noah Harris (19:49.35) also competed Friday morning, placing third and sixth overall.
Tennessee finished first in the team race on the men's side with 20 points, taking down No. 11 Alabama (42), Kentucky (65) and Chattanooga (99) on its home course.
WOMEN'S RACE RECAP: On the women's side, Nyaboke Ogwoka held off a pair of Kentucky runners to secure the victory in her collegiate debut – winning the three-mile race with a time of 16:32.39. Senior and Maryville native Andie-Marie Jones was the second Lady Vol across the line, finishing fourth in 17:07.99.
Lady Vol juniors Summer Schuster (17:08.03) and Jaci Sievers (17:08.10) placed fifth and sixth overall, while redshirt freshman Tula Fawbush rounded out the top five with a ninth-place outing in 17:27.07. True freshman Scout Storms was solid in her collegiate debut with an 11th-place showing, completing the course in 17:32.70.
Tennessee took the women's title with 25 points, followed by Kentucky (37), No. 9 Alabama (65) and Chattanooga (112).
UP NEXT: The Vols and Lady Vols will enter a four-week training block in preparation for the Gans Creek Classic on Friday, Sept. 26 in Columbia, Missouri – getting a preview of the host site of the 2025 NCAA Cross Country National Championships.
