Ogwoka’s Runner-Up Finish Leads Lady Vols at Gans Creek Classic

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Tennessee freshman Mary Nyaboke Ogwoka made an incredible run for the individual title on Friday morning at the Gans Creek Classic, ultimately finishing second overall in a field that featured 237 runners and 10 nationally ranked squads. Her time of 19:07.7 went down as the second-fastest 6k in the nation this season and was more than 40 seconds faster than the previous course record in Columbia, Missouri.
Ogwoka helped lead Tennessee to a 12th-place finish out of 30 teams in Columbia, notably ahead of No. 6 Alabama, No. 16 Michigan State and No. 24 Lipscomb. UT's top-five runners all placed inside the top 150 at the meet, totaling 356 points.
UT senior Andie-Marie Jones (20:28.9) and junior Jaci Sievers (20:29.4) were the second and third Lady Vols across the finish line on Friday, finishing 65th and 66th respectively. Summer Schuster (20:49.0, 95th) and Nia Clatworthy (21:09.1, 133rd) rounded out the top-five for the Big Orange.
On the men's side, a short-handed Tennessee squad featured four finishers in the gold 8k race. Redshirt sophomore Hudson Betts led the group in 96th place at 23:48.3, followed by sophomore Ethan Edgeworth (23:53.5, 109th), freshman Ty Steorts (24:01.8, 126th) and rookie Noah Harris (25:22.9, 222nd) in his in-uniform, collegiate debut.
