#7 Lady Vols Edge #15 Texas, 4-2, Pick up Fifth-Straight Win

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The seventh-ranked Tennessee women's tennis team earned its eleventh-ranked victory of the season, topping No. 15 Texas in a 4-2 triumph on Friday evening at Barksdale Stadium.
The Lady Vols have now notched three straight victories over the Longhorns, a streak that dates back to March 15, 2006, when UT tallied a 5-2 win in Knoxville.
Tennessee (13-3, 7-2 SEC) dropped the doubles point to Texas (10-8, 4-5 SEC). The Longhorns earned a win on court one to secure an early advantage. The No. 44 duo of Catherine Aulia and Leyla Britez Risso posted a 6-1 victory to keep things competitive, but Texas responded with a triumph on court three to clinch the early 1-0 lead.
Singles play saw back-and-forth action, as both teams won a trio of first sets. The Lady Vols struck first, as Vanesa Suarez earned a 6-4, 6-2, win to bring the match even. Texas responded with a win on court five, but then Britez Risso secured a 6-2, 6-2, triumph, Elza Tomase posted a 7-5, 6-3 victory and Saray Yli-Piipari fired off a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 result to clinch the match for Tennessee.
