KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee women's tennis team opens their spring season on Sunday with the Duke Winter Classic in Durham, North Carolina.
UT is joined by host Duke and NC State for three days of competition inside the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The Lady Vols open play at 4 p.m. ET with doubles action.
The Lady Vols finished the spring 2020 season ranked No. 23 in the ITA team rankings and will face a Blue Devils team that finished last season No. 10 and a Wolfpack team that ranked No. 7 in the closing polls.
Freshman Esther Adeshina, junior Julie Ball, sophomore Carly Briggs, sophomore Callie Creath, junior Daria Kuczer, senior Tenika McGiffin and junior Rebeka Mertena will make the trip to Durham.
Adeshina closed out her debut fall collegiate campaign strong, going 5-3 in singles play. The freshman from Bracknell, Great Britain rides a four-match winning streak heading into the Duke Winter Classic.
Briggs, a sophomore from Calhoun, Georgia, looks to build off of her strong closing to the fall campaign. She won five-straight matches to close out the fall season, downing a pair of opponents in the UT Fall classic and going a perfect 3-0 in the June Stewart Invitational. She is 7-2 this season in solo play, 19-5 in her career.
Kuczer was stout in her Orange and White debut this fall. A transfer by way of Pepperdine, she tabbed a 6-3 solo record. The junior opened her UT career by going undefeated in solo play in the Music City Scramble.
