KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee women's tennis team opens dual-match play with a home doubleheader against UT Martin on Friday.
"Ten months ago was the last time our team competed as a unit," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "A lot has happened since then in our world and we know that the only way to move is forward. The Lady Vols are moving forward with an enhanced perspective. One of unity and gratitude, for our team, our community and for our world at large."
The first match begins at 10:30 a.m. ET and the second match follows at 3:30 p.m. ET inside the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
"Our team is comprised of 10 wonderful young women, all of whom grow closer and help make each other stronger because of their differences," Ojeda said. "This season we will be playing with a larger purpose in mind. We will be competing with the unity patch on our match tops, signifying the importance of racial unity and equality.
"Now more than ever, we will also be competing for everyone who has helped make this season possible; Coach (Phillip) Fulmer, Commissioner (Greg) Sankey, our medical staff here at UT and also in the greater Knoxville area. Thank you for giving our team a chance to give our all to Tennessee today."
All home matches played inside the Goodfriend Tennis Center will be conducted without fans per SEC COVID-19 protocols. Information regarding fans at outdoor matches played at Barksdale Stadium will be announced at a later date.
