Adeshina, Ball Earn Singles Wins to Close Duke Winter Classic

DURHAM, N.C. –The Tennessee women's tennis team concluded the Duke Winter Classic on Tuesday, picking up a pair of singles wins.
"I love that we got to compete against two of the best teams in the country the last three days," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "We know exactly where we are at and what we need to do to continue to develop into an SEC championship team. We are looking forward to recovering a bit before giving our all against UTM on Friday"
Junior Julie Ball picked up her first solo win of 2021 to close out the Duke Winter Classic. The Barcelona, Spain native downed Duke's Hannah Zhao in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
Ball moves to 1-1 in singles play this season and 8-4 in her career.
Freshman Esther Adeshina picked up the final singles win of the day. The Bracknell, Great Britain native downed Duke's Emma Lazic in a three-set bout, 6-2, 6-7 (4), 7-5.
Adeshina heads into dual-match play with a 6-5 singles record and is now 4-3 in three-set matches this season.
UP NEXT
The Lady Vols return home to host UT Martin for a doubleheader on Friday, Jan. 15. The first match of the day is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. ET and the second will begin at 3:30 p.m. ET inside the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
All home matches played inside the Goodfriend Tennis Center will be conducted without fans per SEC COVID-19 protocols. Information regarding fans at outdoor matches played at Barksdale Stadium will be announced at a later date.
