Profit Earns Ranked Win, UT Drops 4-1 Match to South Carolina
March 16, 2018 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The 30th-ranked Tennessee women's tennis team returned home for the first time in over a month but fell in a tough 4-1 match against No. 10 South Carolina on Friday night at Barksdale Stadium.
The Lady Vols (12-4, 0-4 SEC) took the first court in doubles but came up short on the remaining two as the Gamecocks took and early 1-0 lead. After USC extended its lead to 3-0, the Big Orange picked up a ranked win on Court 2 by Elizabeth Profit. South Carolina responded with a win on Court 5 to seal the victory.
"Another tough match, but the good news is that we can walk away saying we left it all on the table and got better today," said head coach Alison Ojeda. "Our team is taking advantage of these opportunities, and we are pushing our opponents to have to beat us. Definitely a step in the right direction, we just need to keep at it."
Profit put together her best performance as a Lady Vol, downing 29th-ranked Hadley Berg, 6-3, 7-5. The No. 69 doubles team of Ariadna Riley and Kaitlin Staines had UT's other win on the day, shutting down Berg and Paige Cline, 6-0, to begin the day.
Tennessee will conclude the weekend with a doubleheader vs. Florida and Lipscomb, beginning at noon on Sunday. For the most up-to-date information about the Tennessee women's tennis program, follow @Vol_WTennis on Twitter.
