Tennessee Shuts Out Charleston 2-0
August 27, 2017 | Soccer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Freshman forward McKinley Burkett and junior midfielder Anna Bialczak scored to lead Tennessee to a 2-0 victory over College of Charleston Sunday afternoon at Regal Soccer Stadium.
Burkett's second goal of the season got the Vols on the board early, as she finished off a feed from Erin Gilroy just three minutes into the game. Tennessee recorded five shots on goal in the first half, while junior goalkeeper Shae Yanez was able to deny any Charleston scoring opportunity in a shutout effort.
With just 22 seconds remaining in the half, senior forward Ariel Kupritz sent a cross into the box that found a cutting Bialczak, who put in her first goal of the year to give UT a 2-0 lead. Tennessee kept the pressure on throughout the second half, finishing the game with eight shots on goal.
Sunday's matchup was Tennessee's first versus Charleston in program history. The Vols travel to Nashville next week to take on Belmont on Friday, September 1, at 5 p.m.
