NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Junior Khadija Shaw recorded her first career hat trick to lead Tennessee to a 3-0 shutout over Belmont on Friday at E.S. Rose Park.
In rainy and unseasonably cold conditions, Shaw put Tennessee ahead with an offensive flurry in the 23rd minute. She scored off a pass from Josie Jennings and — less than 40 seconds later — added another goal from long distance.
Shaw, a junior college transfer from Eastern Florida State, scored her third goal in the second half on a header off a corner kick by Rylie O'Keefe.
The Vols are now 5-0, tied for the best start in program history, matching the way the team opened 2012. Belmont (3-1) took its first loss of the season.
Tennessee concludes the weekend with a Sunday match at Middle Tennessee at 6 p.m. Eastern (5 p.m. Central).
