Box Score
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Junior forward Khadija Shaw scored the first two goals of her Tennessee career to lead the Vols to a 6-1 victory over East Tennessee State in their regular season home opener Thursday at Regal Soccer Stadium.
In addition to Shaw, freshmen forwards McKinley Burkett and Erin Gilroy both tallied their first goal in the orange and white. Junior Shae Yanez started in goal for UT, helping her team to its first 3-0 start since 2012.
ETSU struck first, but less than a minute later, junior midfielder Rylie O'Keefe got the Vols on the board with her first goal of the season to tie the match. Redshirt sophomore midfielder Katie Cousins sent a corner kick into the middle of the box that found a leaping Shaw, who headed in what would prove to be the winning goal.
After Burkett's marker in the 32nd minute gave UT a 3-1 lead, sophomore midfielder Claire Franks broke the game open, capitalizing on a fancy pass from senior forward Ariel Kupritz to put the Vols comfortably ahead going into halftime.
Tennessee kept the pressure on in the early stages of the second half, as Shaw netted her second of the night on an impressive individual effort. Two minutes later, Gilroy added one more to punctuate a dominant offensive performance that included 16 shots on goal.
Defensively, UT allowed very little following ETSU's early goal. Yanez and freshmen Ashley Orkus both appeared in goal, combining for two saves.
The Vols are back in action on Sunday, August 27th as they host the College of Charleston Cougars at Regal Stadium.

NOTES
- Tennessee's six-goal outburst was the most they've scored in a game since they defeated Belmont, 8-0, on Sept. 13, 2015.
- UT's 3-0 start is its best to begin a season since 2012, when the Vols won their first five games.
- The Vols are now 6-0 in their all-time matchup with ETSU. Tennessee has outscored the Buccaneers 30-3 over that stretch.
- Sunday's home game vs. Charleston will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
