VFL Merzbacher Earns PGA Tour Canada Status

COURTENAY, B.C. -- Former Tennessee men's golfer and VFL Chad Merzbacher earned Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada conditional status for 2017 on May 5 after placing 28th at the q-school at Crown Isle Resort and Golf Community in Courtenay, British Columbia, Canada.
The cutoff for conditional status on the tour was 40th place and Merzbacher took 28th at 74-71-69-72--286 (-2). He tallied 16 birdies over 72 holes.
Conditional membership is awarded to players that finished 17th to 40th and ties at each Qualifying Tournament. Priority is based on finish position at each site in alternating order beginning with the 17th place finisher from Canada.
Merzbacher starred at Tennessee from the 2012-13 season through the 2015-16 season. He played in 40 tournaments and had a 73.28 round average with 14 top-10 finishes and 19 top-25 finishes. As a senior in 2015-16, he posted six top 10s and nine top 25s with a 72.27 round average and six rounds of par or better over 11 events. Merzbacher was twice named to the SEC Community Service Team (2013, 2015).
The Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada begins its 2017 season with the Freedom 55 Financial Open from June 1-4 at Point Grey Golf & Country Club in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
