Tom Black Track will host a meet for the first time since May 2, 2015 when the Vols hosted the Tennessee Challenge. Last year's schedule was cancelled as Tennessee made renovations to the facility including rearranging the infield and refinishing the running surface. The track now features a Smokey Grey surface with orange accents and white lines.
Phase two of the renovations are currently underway in the northwest corner of the facility on the first turn of the track where they are constructing the Boyd Family Track & Field Center. The Center will include a satellite athletic training room, a team meeting room, equipment storage, public restrooms and a concession stand while also featuring a pavilion for the Tennessee track team.
"We are extremely excited about starting up the outdoor season," director of track & field/cross country Beth Alford-Sullivan said. "Not just the fact that it is the beginning of the outdoor season, but on top of that we are opening up at the newly renovated Tom Black Track. We're thrilled to be representing at home, representing on the Smokey Grey and orange and hosting what we think will be a really outstanding Rust Buster weekend which will lead us to a great Tennessee Relays weekend in a couple weeks."
