Coleman Flies To Top 60m Mark at VT Elite Meet
February 05, 2016 | Track & Field

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Tennessee posted five wins on Friday at the Virginia Tech "Doc Hale" Elite Meet at Rector Fieldhouse.
Christian Coleman, Cameron Brown and Felicia Brown continued to shine this indoor season. Coleman tied for the nation's fastest men's 60-meter time with a 6.54. Cameron Brown fended off some tough competition in the men's weight throw, winning with a throw of 72-0.25 (21.95 meters). Felicia Brown won the women's 60 meters in 7.31, edging Kentucky's Javianne Oliver by one hundredth of a second.
The Tennessee men combined for five personal bests and the UT women had five PRs as well as the Big Orange. This is the Vols' second meet at Rector Fieldhouse after competing in the Virginia Tech Invitational three weeks ago.
Saturday's first event is the women's pole vault (seeded division) at 11 a.m. ET with UT's Kristen Denk set to compete.
Tennessee Men
Coleman won his 60-meter prelims heat with a time of 6.60. He ran a 6.54 in the 60-meter finals, tying Justin Gatlin's 6.54 from 2002 for the second-fastest time in Tennessee history.
Jalen Hunter set several PRs last week at the Vanderbilt Invitational and continued to make strides on Friday. Hunter placed 10th in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best 8.26.
In the men's 400 meters, Ari Cogdell placed fourth with a career-best 47.63.
Nate Harper cleared a PR 15-5.00 (4.70m) in the unseeded pole vault division, placing ninth.
Seth Whitener threw a career-best 58-10.75 (17.95m) in the weight throw, besting his previous top mark by over a foot and a half.
Tennessee Women
Brown won her 60-meter prelims heat with a time of 7.34. Her 7.31 winning time in the finals was one hundredth of a second off of her own personal best, which she clocked last month at the Conference Clash.
In the 400-meter invitational race, Lenysse Dyer took third in 54.67 and Layla White took fifth in 54.76. Both times were PRs and Dyer shaved over a full second off of her previous best.
London Freeland topped her 400-meter PR from just a week ago with a 56.36 on Friday to win the 400-meter open race.
Jessica Rizor on the women's 3000 meters with a PR time of 9:58.30, which was nine seconds better that her previous best.
Morgan Allen took second place in the unseeded pole vault division, clearing 12-7.50 (3.85m) to top her previous high of 12-4.75 (3.78m), which was set at last year's "Doc Hale" Elite Meet.
