KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. -- Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara shot a final round, team-high 71 as the Vols finished in 12th at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup outside of Nashville, Tenn., Saturday morning.
Tennessee’s lineup combined for a third round total of 297 that led to a tournament total of 30-over.
Serrano Guevara’s even par final round moved him up eight spots from the second round. He birdied three holes—two par-4s and one par-5—on the day.
The team-high for birdies in Saturday’s final round went to senior Michael Nagy. He birdied four total, three of which came on the back nine. Sophomore Lorenzo Scalise and junior Jack Smith each posted two birdies.
Senior Chad Merzbacher claimed the best single-round score of the tournament for Tennessee, shooting a 3-under 68 in the first round Friday morning. Merzbacher posted two birdies in the final round Saturday.
Vanderbilt took the team title after winning a playoff over Virginia Saturday afternoon. Both squads finished with team totals of 3-under, the only two teams to finish under par in a field of eight ranked teams in the GolfWeek poll.

Although the stroke play portion of the tournament is complete, Tennessee will head to the course Sunday morning for the ACC/SEC Challenge. The match play format pits five competitors of an SEC squad against five competitors of an ACC squad.
The Vols will go against Clemson, who finished 11th in stroke play. Tennessee’s match play schedule is as follows:

9:16 a.m. ET- Bryson Nimmer vs. Jack Smith
