KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee's Lorenzo Scalise shot 6-under in the final round of the Open D'Italia to finish 16-under overall and tie for 11th place in his first European Tour event.
The native Italian's 6-under final round included eight birdies and two bogeys. He posted birdies on five consecutive holes on the back nine--holes 11 through 15.
Entering Sunday, Scalise was tied for 23rd. He climbed as high as third place in the tournament following his five straight birdies Sunday. His 6-under round moved him up 12 spots to finish just outside the top ten.
Scalise shot under par in each round of the tournament, highlighted by two 6-under rounds on Friday and Sunday. He birdied 20 holes over the four rounds, including a four-hole birdie streak on Friday and his five-hole birdie streak Sunday.
Despite finishing three behind Open D'Italia winner Rikard Karlberg (-19), Scalise claimed the tournament's best amateur score. Scott Fernandez, who finished as the second-highest amateur, shot 9-under for the tournament.
