Scalise 1-Under On European Tour

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Current Tennessee sophomore Lorenzo Scalise opened with a 1-under 71 in the first round of the 72° Open D'Italia Thursday.
The native Italian was selected to play in the Open D'Italia at Golf Club Milano, marking his first career European Tour event. Scalise is from Milan, Italy, the location of the event.
Scalise scored par on seven consecutive holes before bogeying the par-4 8th. After making the turn at 1-over, he birdied the par-3 10th. He reached 2-under after birdying the par-5, 503-yard 14th hole.
The two back-nine birdies allowed Scalise to finish under par on the day and sits tied for 79th after the first round.
Scalise is competing in the European Tour event just four days after finishing tied for 34th in the Carpet Capital Collegiate to open Tennessee's 2015-16 season.
In addition to Scalise, VFL Chris Paisley is in the field, shooting a 2-under in the first round.
The second round takes place Friday, and Scalise tees off at 7:20 a.m. ET while Paisley takes the course at 3 a.m. ET.
