Merzbacher Finishes T-40 in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Junior Chad Merzbacher posted a final round 74 (+2) at the San Diego Regional to finish in a tie for 40th place at 8-over par for the tournament.
Merzbacher entered the final round at 6-over par. He began the final round on the back-nine, posting a bogey on the par-4 10th. The junior bounced back with a birdie on the 13th, but gave it back with a bogey on the par-3 14th. He was able to make the turn at even par after carding his second birdie of the round on the par-5 18th.
The SEC Community Service Team member fell back a stroke with a bogey on the 4th, but got it back two holes later with a birdie on the par-4 6th. Merzbacher ended the round with a bogey on seven, par on eight and bogey on the ninth to finish 2-over par for the day.
Merzbacher compiled 10 birdies for the tournament, including playing the par-5 18th 2-under par through his three rounds. With only one individual advancing, his 8-over par finish was not low enough to qualify for advancement. Oklahoma captured the team title with a score of 21-under par, while John Rahm of Arizona State claimed medalist honors at 10-under.
The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each of the six regionals will advance to the finals. The teams advancing from the San Diego Regional are Oklahoma, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Georgia and Virginia. The individual advancing is Gudmundur Kristjansson (-3) from ETSU.
