TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Tennessee Track and Field opened up the outdoor season on Thursday afternoon as Deon McAdoo and Carson Frost took part in the hammer throw competition on day one of the John Mitchell Alabama Relays.
McAdoo placed 18th on the day behind a throw of 176 feet even (53.66 meters), which came on his second attempt. His first attempt of the year traveled 167 feet, eight inches (51.10) and he did not record a distance on his third and final attempt of the competition. McAdoo entered the weekend with a career-best distance in the event stands at 55.96 meters, set in April of 2013.
Meanwhile, Frost's best attempt of the day -- 166 feet, seven inches (50.78) -- was good enough for 20th on the hammer throw leaderboard. Like McAdoo, he improved on his initial attempt after turning in a 165-10 (50.56) on his first throw of the season. He did not record a distance on his final attempt.
The men's hammer throw was the only event in which Tennessee competed on Thursday -- a day that also featured the women's hammer throw and women's javelin. A more robust schedule awaits the Volunteers on day two of the Alabama Relays as UT is slated to compete in 10 different events on Friday. The women's 4x200-meter relay and the women's triple jump kick things off at 6 p.m. ET and the entire evening session will be streamed live online through SEC Network +.
