Smith Steps Up for Vols

Second Round Stats
DALTON, Ga. -- The Tennessee men's golf team improved their score in the second round of the Carpet Capital on Saturday. The Vols second round of 280 moved them up one spot to 10th place after the second round of play at the Carpet Capital.
The play of sophomore Jack Smith impressed the field Saturday in Dalton. The Knoxville native posted an impressive second round 67 (-5). Smith's second round at the Carpet Capital included six birdies, one bogey, and eleven pars. Smith currently sits in a tie for 39th place heading into Sunday.
The Volunteers also saw another good round from junior Chad Merzbacher. The Ohio native shot a 69 (-3) on Friday. On Saturday, Merzbacher carded a 72 (E) that included four birdies and four bogeys.
Freshman Lorenzo Scalise bounced back from a rough opening round to post a 71 (-1) on Saturday. His second round included three birdies and two bogies.
With tournament leader Auburn sitting at 7-under par, Tennessee will have to post another impressive day at the Carpet Capital on Sunday.
On Sunday, Tennessee will start their Carpet Capital final round at 8:35 a.m. ET from the 10th hole tee box. Tennessee will be paired with North Carolina and North Florida.
