Vols Finish 8th at Primland Collegiate

MEADOWS OF DAN, Va. -- The Tennessee men's golf team finished 8th at the inaugural Primland Collegiate Invitational in Meadows of Dan, Va.
On Tuesday, the Vols ended their two-day tournament by posting a total score of 281-284-287--852 (-12).
After shooting 7-under par on the front-nine, the Vols finished 1-under and fell three spots to an 8th place finish on the final day of play. Junior Chad Merzbacher led the way for the Vols in the final round posting a 67 (-5), his lowest score of the fall season. He finished the inaugural Primland Collegiate Invitational in a tie for 10th after shooting rounds of 69-71-67--207 (-9). Merzbacher's final round featured his second eagle of the tournament, six birdies and three bogeys. His two eagles tied for the most in the tournament.
During the final round, the Volunteers saw freshman Lorenzo Scalise post his lowest round of the season. Scalise's final round 70 (-2) included five birdies and three bogeys. His scores of 71-72-70--213 (-3) placed him in a tie for 24th place, his best finish as a Vol.
After an impressive 4-under par second round, junior Michael Nagy posted a final round 75 (+3) to finish tied for 42nd place at 7-over par. Sophomore Jack Smith shot his highest round of the tournament, posting a final round 76 (+4) to finish in 38th place at 3-over par. Fellow sophomore Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara posted a final round 3-over par to finish 39th (+4).
At the end of Tuesday, host Wake Forest and North Carolina held the top spots on the Primland Collegiate Invitational leaderboard. The Demon Deacons won the team championship by one stroke, while the Tarheels had the winning individual, William Register. Register, who was the individual leader after rounds one and two, carded scores of 66 (-6), 65 (-7), and 68 (-4) to capture the individual title at 17-under par.
Tennessee will return to action on October 10th in Jonesborough, Tenn., at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.
