September 28, 2014 | Soccer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Anna McClung, Cheyenne Spade, Christine Creighton and Cali Hutson found the back of the net on Sunday and Tennessee cruised to a 4-0 win over Mississippi State at Regal Soccer Stadium.
The Volunteers (6-5-0, 1-2-0 SEC) earned their first SEC win of the season over the Bulldogs (3-7-0, 0-3-0 SEC). UT improved to 14-2-0 all-time against Mississippi State. Tennessee posted a season-high 31 shots in the win, its most since shooting 36 times against Western Kentucky on Sept. 15, 2013. The team's 14 shots on goal were its most since posting 15 shots on goal at Mississippi State on Sept. 23, 2012.
UT enjoyed an 11v10 advantage for the majority of the game after Mississippi State defender Kayleigh Henry was issued a red card in the 11th minute for a slide tackle from behind just outside the MSU 18.
Tennessee scored four goals in the first half. In the 13th minute, Amy Neal sent a pass in for McClung, who fired from the left side of the 18 and the ball bounced inside the crossbar to give UT a 1-0 advantage. The goal was McClung's third on the season.
In the 30th minute, Kiah Allen sent a cross in from about 40 yards out on the right side. Aaran Parry had one touch on the left side of the six-yard box and Spade knocked the ball into the right side of the net.
Creighton recorded the first goal of her career in the 40th minute. Brittney Wade sent a cross in from the right side and Creighton punched it into the right side of the goal.
Hutson scored her first career goal in the 43rd minute as Gracie DeGooyer served a ball in from the right side and Hutson fired from the left side of the box to the right post.
Tennessee next heads to Athens, Ga., to face Georgia on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. ET. That game will feature an SEC Network + broadcast. UT returns to Regal Soccer Stadium on Oct. 10, hosting Arkansas with a free Tennessee Soccer scarf giveaway to the first 600 fans.
