Tale Of Two Rounds For Vols

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Tennessee combined for a 12-over par 588 Saturday and currently sits tied for seventh after two rounds at the Insperity Augusta State Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club.
Conditions for Saturday's two rounds were ideal, with sunny skies, a light breeze, and temperatures in the 70s.
In the first round Saturday morning, the Vols came out blazing hot, finishing tied for third after carding a 3-over par 291. However, the second round was not as kind for the Big Orange. Saturday afternoon's second round found the Vols sliding after carding a 9-over par 297, dropping Tennessee into a tie for seventh with Houston.
Four players are tied for the individual lead. Augusta State's Derek Chang and Robin Petersson, South Carolina freshman Matt NeSmith and Central Florida's Greg Eason all carded totals of 4-under par 140. Petersson and NeSmith each rolled in 10 birdies over their 36 holes on the day.
Tennessee was led by Australian freshman Oliver Goss, who continued his productive play finishing the day tied for fifth. Goss carded a 69-72--141 (-3).
The rest of head coach Jim Kelson's starting five finished Saturday as follows: Jay Vandeventer sits tied for 19th after shooting a 71-75--146 (+2), Rick Lamb finished tied for 32nd after carding a 76-73--149 (+5), Brandon Rodgers sits tied for 58th after carding a 77-77--154 (+10), and Thomas Dunne finished in 68th after shooting a 75-80--155 (+11).
Sunday's tournament schedule consists of 18 holes beginning with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start on the par-72, 7,142-yard Forest Hills layout. Teams will play the final round in threesomes. Tennessee will be paired with Houston and Coastal Carolina for Sunday's final round. The Vols will tee off at 8:30 a.m. ET.
